Good morning Team Petrik. Tough loss yesterday, although we have plenty of upcoming games this week.
Our next game is Wednesday, 4/28 at 5:15pm -- Donovan. If you ARE NOT able to make it, please let me know asap. We also have a game on Thursday, 4/29 at 5:15pm -- Piatelli (top field @ HS). Same goes with this game, please advise if your son is not able to attend.
I realize a number of kids are interested in pitching and our goal is to give everyone an opportunity. As we have multiple games back to back this week, we need to be very thoughtful of how many kids we put on the mound each game. There are pitch count and inning limitations we are required to track, as well as required rest days.
Our thoughts of yesterdays game was that the kids did well at bat and base running. Especially toward the 3rd inning. We definitely need to work on fielding. Making good decisions, and most importantly, not throwing the ball around. It is always better to mound the ball and stop the play if there is not an immediate opportunity to make an out -- this can be hard to learn, but the kids will all get there.
At this point, after this weeks games, we will give the kids a few days rest. I would like to hold a practice Monday, 5/3 @ 5pm -- St Mary's field. We will be working on fielding and pitching.
Finally, a few years ago I bought my kids a training device -- SKLZ HitAWay. It is essentially a ball on a rope that you can attach to street signs, basketball poles, etc. This allows the kids to practice their swing, hand eye coordination, etc. If you are looking for an opportunity for your son to get a few additional swings of the bat, it may be a good tool -- works for us. https://sklz.implus.com/product/sklz-hit-a-way-baseball
